Katie Bonnofsky

Husky Leadership Portfolio

Introduction

Courage over Comfort

Hello everybody! My name is Katie Bonnofsky and I am a student at the University of Washington majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. Along with the biology my passions lie in the sciences and public health field, and I also love exploring outside! I work in a UW lab that studies Neuropathology, and allows me to work with the most complex organ in the body- the brain! I also have found my home in the greek system here at UW and am proud to say that I am a Pi Beta Phi. These experiences and a multitude more have made me who I am, and have lead me here today to reflect on the leadership skills I have gained over the years.

“Human knowledge is never contained in one person. It grows from the relationships between each other and the world, and is still never complete!”

My Why

Why do I do what I do?

I want to go to medical school and become a doctor one day and so I gear what I do right now in my life towards that goal. Passion, curiosity and helping others is what drives me. I approach my why by taking it one step at a time with goals. To study a certain amount of hours for a midterm with a goal of getting a certain grade. To work in my lab and shadow doctors so I can get meaningful experiences. The main competencies I use to reach this goal are service, plan, reflection & application, and follow-through.

For starters, I am a Biology major, and take all other pre-med requirements like physics, statistics, biochemistry and more. I also work in a neuropathology lab which gives me passion for learning about the brain and how we can better our medicine related to it. I have another research position doing research on minorities and women’s education. I also volunteer at different Young Life camps and at the Seattle humane society taking dogs on runs. My product is a busy life of things that I love doing, and just trying to enjoy my time at the University of Washington!
